Application Deadline--October 31
A scholarship from this program shall be for the purpose of giving aid in providing tuition to third-year medical students of superior ability who are in need of scholarship funds in medical schools located in Alabama, Arkansas, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.  Click here to see a listing of previous Scholarship Recipients .  Deans of medical schools located in the above mentioned states are notified that limited funds are available for scholarships for third-year medical students.  If awarded, the $1000 scholarship may be allocated to one or more deserving medical students at the discretion of the Dean.  To request a scholarship, the Dean must apply on behalf of the student(s) by completing the application  and submitting a letter to the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Grants, Loans & Scholarships by the deadline date of October 31.  The letter should include the full name and mailing address of the student, an explanation of the student's need, and the deserving qualities of the student.  If approved, the Dean is notified and a check is issued jointly to the student and the school.  Please contact Jane Fowler with any inquiries via phone: 800.423.4992 ext. 147, fax: 205.942.4454 or email: jfowler@sma.org
