Click here to see a listing of previous Grant Recipients . Deans of medical schools and Heads of Departments at the medical schools and their affiliated hospitals located in the above mentioned states are notified that limited funds are available for those participating in investigative projects. The money made available through this project is bestowed primarily to physicians in training (graduate medical education) and medical students associated with medical schools, medical centers, osteopathic schools and/or their affiliated hospitals. Depending on availability of funds, a maximum of two grants annually may be awarded per medical school or medical center. The grant is primarily for the purpose of originating new projects, or for the continuation of a relatively new project. It shall be used for the purchase of expendable items (which includes the purchase and maintenance of research animals) but may not be used for the purchase of computer or computer training. No travel expenses will be funded. Transferring of funds is not allowed.
To request a grant, complete the application prior to the deadline date of April 1. If approved, the grant is awarded jointly to the applicant and the institution with which the applicant is associated. The check is sent to the applicant. Requirements of the grant include receiving a letter from the Faculty/Clinical Adviser outlining potential clinical applications of the project and a summary of the results of the research project upon its completion. Failure to do so will jeopardize future research funding. Recipients are requested to become members in SMA (a free membership for medical students & residents) and to provide a reprint if the research project is published.
