Southern Medical Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.  At the last accreditation review, SMA was awarded “accreditation with commendation” for a six year term by the ACCME.  This is the highest possible award for accredited providers.

The on-line CME activities offered on sma.org are designated by the SMA for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.  The award is based on hour-for-hour participation in the activities.  A maximum award is set for each course.  In order to receive CME credit, participants must take the self-assessment test provided with each course, document attendance by attesting to participation, evaluate the activity and fully complete and submit the CME request form to SMA for processing.  Certificates are provided via e-mail or through regular mail within one week of processing.
