Scar tissue hypertrophy and contracture formation can lead to facial distortions, cervical mobility impairment, as well as problems with eating, dental hygiene and ocular difficulties. Clinicians involved in burn care and rehabilitation should be familiar with the most current and optimal methods to treat these potentially disfiguring and disabling injuries.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be better prepared to:

  • Define the underlying complexities in the treatment of facial burns
  • Increase knowledge and experience in the technique of facial laser scanning
  • Perform face mask fabrication techniques with high temperature thermo-plastic material and understand modifications
  • Create the design of an elaborate neck splint and discuss indications for other options
  • Apply camouflage make-up used for burn scar correction
  • Fabricate various inserts used to control facial scarring under fabric pressure garments

Target Audience: This workshop is designed for Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists and Assistants, Nurses, Physicians, and other clinicians interested in the rehabilitation treatment of patients with face burns.

Course Outline:

  • Didactic lecture on the difficulties in the management of face and neck burns
  • Each participant will circulate through each of 5 workstations designed to impart practical experience in different treatments for face and neck burns
