Opening Ceremony
and First General Session
Join President, Paula Oliver Pell, MD, FACEP, FAAP, as she begins the start of our Centennial Scientific Assembly with this year’s Opening Ceremony certain to be uplifting and inspirational for all. Highlights include recognition of Special Awards Recipients, The Holt Young Physician Leadership Award and the installation of new members into the prestigious Society of 1906.
Keynote Address
The keynote speaker, Donald J. Palmisano, MD, JD, is a graduate of Tulane Medical School and Loyola Law School, current president of Intrepid Resources®/The Medical Risk Manager Company, a long-time member of the SMA, and past president of the American Medical Association. His vast communication experience includes giving over 1000 speeches and media interviews including appearances on ABC’s Good Morning America and NBC’s Today Show. His keynote address entitled, "Leadership--The Essential Elements and Why Failure Is Not An Option," will feature a method to control medical liability insurance costs, a way to maintain the patient-physician trusted relationship without third party control, the definition of true leadership and how to become a leader, and identifying true quality and patient safety and ways to attain these goals. Dr. Palmisano is currently Clinical Professor of Surgery and Clinical Professor of Medical Jurisprudence at Tulane University School of Medicine and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Health Systems Management of the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans.
