Purpose and Objectives

The Annual Scientific Assembly is the Southern Medical Association’s premier educational event. The Assembly enables physicians to practice the highest standards of medicine by fostering professional development and economic stability through education, services, collegiality, and leadership across multiple specialties.

The Assembly offers a multifaceted curriculum of activities for attendees. You can enhance your clinical skills, present your own research and clinical experience, benefit from new and emerging techniques, participate in peer-directed sessions addressing specialty and interdisciplinary topics, and interact with nationally-renowned experts.

In addition to lectures and case presentations, the Assembly provides a forum for interacting and mentoring among healthcare professionals, exchanging clinical information, and participating in scientific sessions and poster presentations.

Target Audience

Scientific sessions have been developed for Physicians (MDs and DOs), as well as residents and fellows in the specialties of Cardiology, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Family Practice, Geriatric Medicine, Gynecology, Medicine, Obstetrics, Oncology, Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery, Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Radiology, and Surgery. Other members of the healthcare team including physician assistants, nurse practitioners, first responders, registered nurses, medical students, and technicians, will benefit from the information presented.

Continuing Medical Education Credit

The Southern Medical Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

American Medical Association Physician’s Recognition Award

The Southern Medical Association designates this education activity for a maximum of 21.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

American Academy of Family Physicians

This activity has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 22.25 Prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians.

American College of Emergency Physicians

Approved by the American College of Emergency Physicians for 20 hours of ACEP Category I credit.

Nurse Continuing Education Contact Hours

The Southern Medical Association is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Alabama State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Southern Medical Association Provider #5-125. This activity qualifies for up to 20 contact hours.

American Academy of Physician Assistants

The American Academy of Physician Assistants accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by the ACCME.

Certificate of Attendance

A certificate of attendance will be provided to all non-physician healthcare professionals. Refer to your provider to determine whether this program will qualify for other categories of continuing education credits.

CME/CE Credit Note

This activity will be submitted to additional accrediting bodies for approval. Although confirmation was not available at press time, updated information will be made available on this webpage. The maximum number of available hours is subject to change as additional sessions are confirmed.
