GENERAL INFORMATION

From the President

Greetings,

The New Orleans Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau has many reasons to celebrate the resurgence of America’s most culturally important city, a full convention calendar and glowing testimonials from recent corporate, association and leisure visitors. (30,000 Cardiologists raved about their recent experience.) Therefore, in our support of New Orleans – both the community and its people -- Southern Medical Association is proud to join other corporations choosing to bring financial revenue to the Crescent City. I invite you to join us during the 2007 Annual Scientific Assembly in New Orleans, Louisiana at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside, November 15-17, 2007.

In addition, SMA also finds itself among a select group making “voluntourism” opportunities available to conference attendees. As an added feature during the Annual Assembly, SMA will partner with Habitat for Humanity and Second Harvest Food Bank in order to provide attendees with a philanthropic volunteer opportunity, by supporting these organizations with much-needed people-resources to fuel their community efforts.

So many times we find ourselves ready and willing to help others; however, not knowing how or when prohibits many busy professionals with time constraints. This strategic partnership will allow physicians and other attendees the opportunity to participate in a special philanthropic activity by volunteering their time at a grassroots level, while combining community service with a work-related, Medallion Level CME conference.

As corporate America re-discovers New Orleans as a destination, for conferences and meetings, won’t you join us as SMA increases revenues, visitors, and philanthropic assistance to the city? Southern Medical Association is proud to join Whirlpool Corporation, Coca-Cola, Konica Minolta, Sherwin Williams and IBM by bringing our meeting, the 2007 Annual Scientific Assembly, to the Big Easy!

For those familiar with the sights and sounds of New Orleans, the core of the city’s hospitality and tourism destinations are open and thriving, including the Faubourg Marigny, French Quarter, Warehouse Arts District, Garden District/Uptown, Audubon and University section, Carrollton and Riverbend, and historic Algiers on the city’s Westbank. Hotels and retail, such as The Shops at Canal Place, The Riverwalk and Jax Brewery, are open - offering visitors a full complement of national stores, specialty shops and boutiques. Yet, the famous old line restaurants such as Antoine’s and Arnaud’s desperately need your support as they maintain their worthy reputation with excellent food and service.

As a native New Orleanian, I promise you will not find kinder, gentler, nor more grateful people when you visit the city for the Annual Scientific Assembly of the SMA. This meeting is a Win-Win: Great CME and Good feelings as you help the most unique city in the country recover.

So come, enjoy a beignet, spend your money, and obtain your CME, too! Register today and join SMA in New Orleans November 15-17, 2007. I look forward to seeing you there!

Kindest Regards,

George S. Ellis, Jr., MD
President, Southern Medical Association
