Accreditation Information

Purpose and Objectives: The Annual Scientific Assembly is the Southern Medical Association’s premier educational event. The Assembly enables physicians to practice the highest standards of medicine by fostering professional development and economic stability through education, services, collegiality, and leadership across multiple specialties.

The Assembly offers a multifaceted curriculum of activities for participants. You can enhance your clinical skills, explore practice performance issues, present your own research and clinical experience, benefit from new and emerging techniques, participate in peer-directed sessions addressing specialty and interdisciplinary topics, and interact with nationally renowned experts.

In addition to lectures, case presentations and workshops, the Assembly provides a forum for interacting and mentoring among physicians, exchanging clinical information, and participating in scientific sessions and poster presentations.

Target Audience: Physicians (MDs, and DOs) in all specialties, as well as residents and medical students. Other members of the healthcare team including physician assistants, licensed nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and practice managers may also benefit from attending the meeting.

Continuing Medical Education Credit: The Southern Medical Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. In 2005, SMA was awarded “accreditation with commendation” for a six-year term by the ACCME.

CE Credit Note: This activity has been submitted to additional accrediting bodies for approval. Although confirmation was not available at the time of this printing, updated credit information will be available on SMA’s website: www.sma.org.
