SMA Special Service Award
Dear Colleagues:
Nominations are accepted for the three Special Service Awards of the Southern Medical Association – the Distinguished Service Award, the Seale Harris Award, and the Dr. Robert D. and Alma W. Moreton Original Research Award at specific times during the year. These prestigious awards are bestowed on those physicians who illustrate dedication and devotion to their chosen profession, and whose outstanding achievements have had a positive impact on medicine and/or the Association. There are many fine physicians in SMA who deserve proper recognition for their tireless efforts and special accomplishments.

Nominate a Member
Distinguished Service Award
At the Houston Meeting in 1955, the Association created the Distinguished Service Award. This award may be presented annually to any member of the Association in recognition of outstanding contributions to the advancement of medical science and/or the Association.
Seale Harris Award
Established at the New Orleans Meeting in 1958, this award may be presented annually to any member of the Association in recognition of important research accomplishments in the broad field of metabolism, endocrinology, or nutrition, or for significant accomplishments contributing to a better understanding of the chemical changes occurring in disease.
Dr. Robert D. and Alma W. Moreton
Original Research Award
At the Dallas Meeting in 1961, the Association established the Original Research Award. This award consists of a medal and a cash prize, which may be awarded annually to any member of the Association in recognition of original research in clinical medicine or the basic sciences as applied to medicine.
